The Festival of Guest Nations will mark its 20th anniversary on Sunday, September 13, 2026, at Seacliff Park in Leamington, Ontario, bringing together migrant workers, local residents, community organizations, and service providers for a day focused on culture, community, and connection.
According to organizers, the annual event celebrates the diversity and contributions of migrant workers who play an important role in Essex County's agricultural sector and broader economy. The festival has spent two decades creating opportunities for workers and community members to connect while highlighting the many cultures represented in the region.
In addition to cultural celebrations and entertainment, the festival will feature an information area designed to help migrant workers, newcomers, families, and residents connect with support services and community resources. Representatives from the Ontario Provincial Police, Leamington Fire Services, Essex-Windsor EMS, the Consulate of Mexico in Leamington, and organizations involved in healthcare, mental health, settlement services, and community safety are expected to participate.
Organizers say the information area is intended to strengthen relationships between migrant workers and local organizations while increasing awareness of available programs and supports. By bringing multiple services together in one location, the festival aims to promote inclusion, safety, and community well-being.
Festival activities will include live entertainment, cultural performances, special guests, raffles, prizes, giveaways, and educational opportunities for attendees.
Importance To Agriculture
Migrant workers remain a critical part of Ontario's greenhouse, fruit, vegetable, and field crop sectors, particularly in the Windsor-Essex region. Organizers note that approximately 20,000 migrant workers come to Essex County each year, supporting agricultural production and contributing to the local economy.
The festival is supported by organizations working directly with migrant workers across the region. The Migrant Worker Community Program, a Leamington-based charitable organization, provides educational, social, cultural, and recreational opportunities while helping workers access services related to health, legal assistance, travel, and immigration guidance. Over the past year, the organization supported approximately 5,000 migrant workers and engaged with more than 200 farms in Windsor-Essex County.
Another participating initiative is the TeaMWork Project, led by Workforce Windsor Essex. The project supports temporary migrant workers in Windsor-Essex, Chatham-Kent, and Sarnia-Lambton through outreach efforts, education, community partnerships, and access to information related to workers' rights, health and safety, mental health, and employment standards.
