Southern Alberta agriculture community unites to raise funds for expanded heart care services
The Southern Alberta agriculture community is preparing to come together for a special fundraising event aimed at improving healthcare services in the region. Heart of Harvest, presented by Crop Aid Nutrition, will support efforts to expand cardiac care services and help strengthen healthcare access for rural residents.
The event is being held in support of the Bringing Hearts Home campaign and the new Cardiac Centre of Excellence at Chinook Regional Hospital. Organizers hope the fundraiser will raise awareness about the importance of advanced cardiac care closer to home for families living in Southern Alberta.
Heart of Harvest is scheduled to take place on October 15, 2026, at the Sandman Signature Lethbridge Lodge in Lethbridge, Alberta. The event will bring together members of the agriculture industry, local businesses, community leaders, healthcare supporters, and residents for an evening focused on giving back to the community.
The fundraiser will feature a three-course prime rib dinner, along with live and silent auctions that will give guests an opportunity to contribute to the cause. A live pledge drive will also be held during the evening. To encourage additional donations, Crop Aid Nutrition has committed to matching contributions up to $10,000, helping increase the impact of funds raised during the event.
One of the key stories behind the fundraiser comes from Walter Van Ee, a Crop Aid Nutrition District Manager. The idea for Heart of Harvest was inspired by his family's experiences with heart-related health challenges. His personal connection to the issue helped bring attention to the need for improved cardiac care services in the region and sparked the creation of the event.
Attendees and media representatives will also have the opportunity to learn more about the Bringing Hearts Home campaign and its goals. Representatives from the Chinook Regional Hospital Foundation will be available to discuss how expanded cardiac services can benefit residents across Southern Alberta. Improved healthcare access can reduce travel time for patients and families while helping ensure specialized treatment is available closer to where people live and work.
In addition, Crop Aid Nutrition representatives will discuss the company's commitment to supporting the communities connected to agriculture. Organizers believe strong rural communities depend not only on successful farms and businesses but also on quality healthcare services that support the well-being of residents.
The event highlights the important role agriculture organizations can play in supporting local causes. While Heart of Harvest brings together people from across the farming industry, its impact extends beyond agriculture. The funds raised will help contribute to healthcare improvements that can benefit families throughout the region.
Community fundraising events like Heart of Harvest demonstrate how local organizations can work together to address important challenges. By combining resources, community support, and industry involvement, initiatives such as this can help create meaningful change and improve quality of life for residents.
The fundraiser also serves as a reminder of the close connection between healthy communities and a strong agricultural sector. Rural families often face unique healthcare challenges, making investments in local medical services especially valuable. Expanding specialized healthcare options can provide greater peace of mind for residents while contributing to stronger, more resilient communities.
As guests gather for Heart of Harvest, the focus will remain on supporting a shared goal: improving access to quality cardiac care in Southern Alberta. Through donations, community involvement, and industry support, the event aims to make a positive difference for patients and families who may depend on these services in the future.
