Join UFA to Celebrate Alberta Farmers
Today, June 13, United Farmers of Alberta (UFA) celebrates Farmers Day at all its locations across the province. This annual event, held on the second Friday in June, began in 1945 and continues to be a special day for recognizing Alberta’s farmers and ranchers.
UFA considers farming to be more than a job—it’s a way of life. As a co-operative deeply rooted in agriculture, UFA uses this day to thank the people who grow our food, support the economy, and care for the land.
"At UFA, we know that farming is more than a job—it’s a way of life. As a co-operative rooted in agriculture, we have a responsibility to stand with our rural communities. Farmer’s Day is our way of saying thank you and celebrating the legacy of those who make it all possible,” said Fred Thun, President and CEO of UFA.
This year’s celebration offers something for everyone. UFA locations are hosting community events such as sizzling barbecues, coffee and donuts, petting zoos for children, and vendor demonstrations showcasing new ag technologies. Visitors can also enter in-store prize giveaways during the day.
Beyond local events, Alberta landmarks including the Calgary Tower, Lethbridge City Hall, and Edmonton’s High-Level Bridge will be lit in UFA’s orange and green colors to show support for agriculture.
UFA encourages everyone to join the celebration and share their appreciation for farmers by using the hashtag #UFAFarmersDay on social media. Whether someone is a long-time co-op member or visiting for the first time, Farmers Day is an opportunity to connect with the community and celebrate the vital role of agriculture.
UFA remains proud to support Alberta’s farmers. As they say, “We’re for Farmers. And we’re proud of it.”
