Farm company delivers 5000 backpacks to support education and families

As students prepare to return to school, Lipman Family Farms is continuing a long-standing tradition of helping children and families in the communities where its employees live and work. This year, the company is distributing more than 5,000 backpacks in 12 locations across North America.

The backpack giveaway program began 16 years ago in Immokalee, Florida, and has grown into a major community initiative. The effort focuses on three important goals: supporting children, encouraging education, and helping address hunger in local communities.

The program was inspired by the company’s founder, Max Lipman, who was unable to read or write. Because he understood the importance of education, he ensured that his children had opportunities to learn and succeed. Today, his vision continues through programs that help students start the school year prepared and confident.

“Kids who are equipped and fed are ready to learn,” said Elyse Lipman, CEO of Lipman Family Farms. “Prepared kids who are excited about the coming year is reason enough to do what we do, but we’re also building strong communities by supporting tomorrow’s community leaders with good food, caring people and strong schools.”

One of the largest events took place in Immokalee, where approximately 1,900 backpacks were distributed to local students. Community partners also helped provide 1,300 pairs of shoes, 300 bicycles, and 300 gift cards. Additional large events were held in Knoxville, Tennessee, and Hendersonville, North Carolina, where hundreds of backpacks were distributed to families.

The initiative extends beyond school supplies. Local organizations participate by offering health information, screenings, food assistance, and other valuable community resources. These partnerships help ensure that children and their families receive comprehensive support as they prepare for a new school year.

“We were thrilled to spend the day with families getting ready for school,” said Jamie Ulmer, CEO of Healthcare Network, a presenting sponsor of the backpack giveaway in Immokalee. “Together, we’re giving local kids a great start.”

Food assistance also plays an important role in the program. Families received donated food products, helping ensure that students have access to nutritious meals. Research and community experience continue to show that children are more likely to succeed in school when their basic needs are met.

“Lipman Family Farms understands that when children have access to nutritious food, they are better prepared to learn, grow, and succeed,” said Jennifer Denike, chief development officer of Harry Chapin Food Bank. “Through this partnership, families receive the school supplies they need to start the year strong, along with nutritious food that helps put meals on the table. Together, we are addressing immediate needs while helping children arrive at school ready to learn and succeed.”

Lipman Family Farms works throughout the year with community organizations to support education, food security, and youth development. Through events like the backpack giveaway, the company aims to strengthen communities and provide students with the tools they need for success.
