Fifteen delegates acclaimed to help guide Manitoba crop priorities

The Manitoba Crop Alliance (MCA) has announced the results of its 2026 crop committee delegate nomination process, highlighting strong farmer participation and continued leadership across Manitoba's crop sectors.

The nomination period opened on July 1 and closed on October 1, 2026. During that time, farmers across the province had the opportunity to put their names forward for delegate positions on MCA's crop committees. These committees play an important role in representing growers and helping shape decisions that support Manitoba agriculture.

A total of 15 farmers were nominated for 17 available committee positions. Because the number of nominations did not exceed the number of available seats, all nominees were elected by acclamation. Among the successful candidates are four new delegates and 11 returning members, creating a balance of fresh ideas and experienced leadership.

“Our crop committees provide a strong voice for each crop type we represent, while also creating opportunities for collaboration and a cross-commodity approach to the issues all farmers face,” said MCA CEO Pam de Rocquigny. “I would like to thank all the MCA farmer members who let their names stand for nomination and I look forward to seeing how they will help guide the direction of our industry.”

The organization noted that committee members contribute valuable knowledge and real-world farming experience. Their input helps guide research priorities, agronomy programs, market development efforts, and communication initiatives that benefit Manitoba growers.

Delegates were selected to represent four crop categories: corn, flax, sunflower, wheat, and barley.

For the corn committee, four farmers were elected to fill the available positions:

  • Doug Martin (East Selkirk)

  • Jonothan Hodson (Lenore)

  • Warren McCutcheon (Carman)

  • Joel Doerksen (MacGregor)

These delegates will represent corn growers and help guide activities related to the crop's production and market opportunities.

In the flax category, three farmers were acclaimed to committee positions:

  • Nick Matheson (Stonewall)

  • Leigh Smith (Oak Lake)

  • Angela Brackenreed (Justice)

However, one delegate seat remains vacant. MCA is continuing its search for an individual interested in representing flax growers and contributing to committee discussions.

The sunflower committee also filled three positions through the nomination process:

  • Nathan Tolenaar (Stony Mountain)

  • Darcy Watson (Rossendale)

  • Brad Anderson (Cypress River)

Similar to the flax committee, one seat remains open, and MCA is encouraging interested producers to become involved.

The wheat and barley committee completed its delegate selection process with five acclaimed representatives:

  • Scott Mowbray (Cartwright)

  • Robert Misko (Roblin)

  • Brad Myskiw (Woodlands)

  • Ryan Hueging (Warren)

  • Kelvin Rothenburger (Stanley)

As one of Manitoba's key crop sectors, wheat and barley growers will continue to have strong representation through the committee.

The newly elected delegates will officially begin serving on their respective committees in January 2027. Their responsibilities will include providing farmer perspectives, identifying industry priorities, and supporting initiatives that improve competitiveness and profitability for crop producers.

MCA leadership expressed appreciation for all farmers who participated in the nomination process. The organization emphasized that producer involvement is essential for maintaining effective representation and ensuring decisions reflect the needs of Manitoba's farming community.

The alliance also recognized several outgoing committee members for their years of service and dedication. These individuals contributed their time, expertise, and leadership to advance the interests of Manitoba farmers and strengthen the organization.

By bringing together producers from different regions and crop sectors, MCA's committee structure helps build collaboration across the agriculture industry. The committees serve as an important connection between farmers and the organization, helping ensure that programs and investments support the long-term success of Manitoba agriculture.

As the new delegates prepare to take their roles in 2027, MCA remains focused on representing growers and advancing priorities that support sustainable crop production, innovation, and market opportunities throughout the province.

The organization continues to encourage farmer participation, particularly for the remaining vacant positions on the flax and sunflower committees, to ensure all sectors have a strong voice in shaping the future of Manitoba agriculture.
