Farm Aid 40 Celebrates Farmers

Minnesota will take center stage on September 20, 2025, as the Minnesota Department of Agriculture (MDA) welcomes the 40th Annual Farm Aid Festival. The event celebrates four decades of music and advocacy for America’s family farmers.

“Minnesota is honored to welcome Farm Aid on its milestone 40th anniversary,” said MDA Commissioner Thom Petersen. “Family farmers are the backbone of our state’s economy and culture, and Farm Aid shines a spotlight on the essential role they play in feeding our communities. We’re proud to showcase Minnesota agriculture on this national stage.”

MDA will feature a special tent where visitors can explore interactive exhibits, meet representatives from the Emerging Farmers Office, and discover everyday ways to support local farmers through Minnesota Grown.

One highlight of the event is Farm Aid’s HOMEGROWN Village, where attendees can join the Fan Mail for Farmers project. Visitors will learn more about the challenges farm families face and write postcards of gratitude and encouragement directly to Minnesota farmers.

Since its founding in 1985 by Willie Nelson, Neil Young, and John Mellencamp, Farm Aid has raised more than $85 million to help farmers stay on their land. The nonprofit’s board later welcomed Dave Matthews in 2001 and Margo Price in 2021, expanding its influence and reach.

Farm Aid’s mission strongly aligns with MDA’s commitment to enhancing food security, protecting the environment, and strengthening rural communities. The festival also highlights resources like the Minnesota Farm and Rural Helpline, available 24/7 at 833-600-2670 and online at minnesotafarmstress.com, to support farmer well-being.

As Minnesota hosts this milestone celebration, Farm Aid 40 will connect festivalgoers directly with the people who grow their food, shining a spotlight on resilience, sustainability, and the vital role of family farming in America’s future.
