New wheat herbicide combines effective weed management with improved mixing and handling performance.
Wheat growers continue to face challenges from grasses and broadleaf weeds that can reduce crop performance and profitability. To help address these concerns, Nufarm has introduced Mountain™ herbicide, a new weed management tool designed to provide dependable control while making product handling and application easier for farmers.
Mountain™ is a Group 2 herbicide developed for use in both spring and winter wheat. The product contains flucarbazone-sodium technology and is designed to control a broad range of troublesome weeds commonly found in wheat fields. By combining effective weed control with improved formulation features, the product aims to help growers achieve better application results and operational efficiency.
One of the key advantages of Mountain™ herbicide is its ability to control important grass weeds such as wild oat, foxtails, barnyard grass, bromes, and Italian ryegrass. In addition to grass control, the herbicide also targets several broadleaf weeds that compete with wheat crops for nutrients, moisture, and sunlight.
Nufarm says the product offers flexibility for growers through a wide application window. Farmers can apply Mountain™ from the one-leaf stage of wheat growth up to 60 days before harvesting. This flexibility allows producers to better manage application timing according to field conditions and seasonal requirements.
Beyond weed control performance, Mountain™ has been designed to address common challenges associated with mixing and handling herbicides. Traditional formulations can sometimes present difficulties related to dispersion, storage, and tank mixing. The new formulation provides improved dispersion and solubility, helping applicators prepare spray mixtures more efficiently.
Another benefit is strong compatibility with many broadleaf herbicides commonly used in wheat production systems. This feature supports tank-mix flexibility, allowing growers to design weed management programs that meet specific field needs while saving time during application.
Storage performance was also a key focus during product development. The formulation is designed to maintain reliable flowability even after exposure to cold storage conditions. This characteristic can help reduce handling difficulties and improve convenience for growers and applicators.
According to Nufarm, the product represents an advancement in herbicide formulation technology. Company officials note that modern growers are increasingly looking for products that not only provide effective weed control but also improve ease of use and operational efficiency. By addressing both crop protection and application challenges, Mountain™ aims to deliver value throughout the production cycle.
Effective weed control remains an important part of successful wheat production. Weed competition can reduce yield potential, increase production costs, and complicate harvest operations. Products that provide dependable control while streamlining application processes can help growers manage fields more effectively.
“Mountain™ represents a meaningful advancement in formulation technology for wheat growers,” said Jeff Wagner, VP of Sales, Crop Protection at Nufarm. “Growers need products that not only provide proven weed control but also make applications more efficient. Mountain™ delivers the performance expected from flucarbazone while offering an improved distribution and user experience.”
Mountain™ is expected to be available for the spring 2027 growing season. The herbicide has already received registrations in several wheat-producing states, including Colorado, Idaho, Kansas, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Texas, Washington, and Wyoming. Additional registrations are expected as the product expands into new markets.
The introduction of Mountain™ reflects ongoing efforts within the crop protection industry to develop practical solutions that help growers improve productivity and efficiency. As farmers continue to seek tools that simplify operations while protecting crop yields, advanced formulations like Mountain™ may play an increasingly important role in modern wheat production systems.
