New initiatives support US farmers export readiness and global market access

The National Association of State Departments of Agriculture is strengthening export opportunities for US agriculture through its America First Trade Promotion Program. The initiative focuses on improving exporter readiness, reducing barriers, and supporting long-term market growth.

As part of the program, two research studies will guide future trade strategies. These include a biotechnology regulatory data case study and an analysis of the GSM-102 export credit program. Both efforts aim to provide useful data to improve international trade planning.

The program also expands the Farm2Food Accelerator by adding export-focused training. This will help US farmers and producers better understand foreign markets and participate more effectively in international trade shows. The goal is to improve their ability to compete globally.

To reduce financial barriers, the program supports participation in Tri-National Agricultural Accord activities from 2026 to 2028. Funding will mainly assist with travel costs, especially airfare, making it easier for eligible members to take part in global discussions.

In response to member demand, new state-led inbound trade delegations will be introduced. These initiatives will focus on building long-term relationships with international partners rather than short-term deals. They will also help address regulatory issues and non-tariff trade barriers in key markets.

These delegations will allow direct interaction with global stakeholders, including government officials, universities, and regulatory agencies. This approach supports both immediate export opportunities and long-term growth strategies.

By allowing states to lead program planning and execution, with support from NASDA, the initiative offers a flexible and effective model to boost US agricultural competitiveness in global markets.

Marcel Huijsmans, Global Marketing Director at Topigs Norsvin tells us about their new genetic solution R3silience that offers a solid alternative to how the industry can approach disease management.

R3silience delivers scientifically proven, naturally resilient pigs that thrive under disease pressure, enabling more predictable, sustainable production by reducing losses and sustaining growth under disease challenge.

R3silience pigs deliver higher survival, stronger overall performance, and healthier herds - reducing wean-to-finish mortality by up to 6 percentage points during multifactorial PRRS outbreak*.

R3silience pigs not only show higher survival, but also deliver superior growth, improving daily weight gain by up to 0.04lbs. per day under multifactorial PRRS outbreak.*

Pigs with enhanced resilience to both viral and bacterial diseases require fewer health interventions and up to 8% less antibiotic treatments from wean-to-finish*, supporting better animal welfare.
