New corn herbicide offers weed control and long-lasting residual protection

BASF has announced that its new Ridivex herbicide has received registration from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), marking an important development for corn growers across the United States. The company plans to introduce the product for the 2027 growing season.

Weed pressure continues to be one of the biggest challenges facing corn farmers today. Resistant weed species are becoming more common, making weed management more difficult and costly. Many growers must use multiple herbicide applications and additional field passes to maintain clean fields, increasing both labor and input costs.

Ridivex herbicide was developed to help address these challenges. The product is designed for early post-emergence use in corn and combines multiple active ingredients to improve weed control while helping growers protect crop yield potential.

"Ridivex herbicide provides corn growers doing the Biggest Job on Earth with a powerful all-in-one early POST solution designed to stay ahead of weed emergence and maintain clean fields through critical growth stages," said Jessica Dorsey, Product Manager for Corn POST Herbicides, BASF Agricultural Solutions.

She added, "Ridivex is the first corn POST herbicide innovation from BASF in over a decade, representing a defining moment in weed control and signaling the next era of performance for corn growers."

According to BASF, Ridivex provides broad-spectrum control of more than 200 broadleaf weed species. The herbicide includes diflufenzopyr, dicamba, and pyroxasulfone, offering multiple modes of action to help manage difficult and resistant weeds. The combination is intended to improve overall performance while supporting long-term weed management programs.

Another key feature of Ridivex is its residual activity. BASF says the herbicide can provide control of more than 80 broadleaf and grass weeds for up to eight weeks after application. This extended protection may help reduce weed competition during critical crop growth stages.

The product also includes a built-in crop safener designed to improve crop safety. BASF says this feature can help farmers achieve effective weed control while reducing concerns about potential crop injury.

Company representatives describe Ridivex as an important innovation for corn production. BASF notes that it is the company's first new post-emergence corn herbicide introduction in more than a decade. The product was developed to deliver both immediate weed suppression and extended residual control in a single solution.

As weed resistance continues to evolve, many agronomists emphasize the importance of using herbicides with multiple effective active ingredients and integrating different management strategies. Products that offer both knockdown activity and residual control can play an important role in comprehensive weed management plans.

BASF says growers may see visible weed control results within hours of application while also benefiting from weeks of residual protection. The company believes the product will help simplify weed management by providing broad-spectrum control through a single application approach.

The EPA registration is a significant milestone for BASF and its agricultural solutions business. The approval allows the company to move forward with plans for commercialization ahead of the 2027 season.

Ridivex herbicide is not currently available for sale, and BASF is not accepting orders at this time. Additional details regarding product availability, distribution, and use recommendations are expected closer to launch.

BASF's Agricultural Solutions division continues to invest heavily in research and development to support farmers through new technologies and crop protection tools. The company focuses on combining crop protection products, digital technologies, seed innovations, and sustainability initiatives to help farmers improve productivity while addressing evolving agricultural challenges.

With resistant weeds continuing to threaten crop performance, BASF believes Ridivex herbicide will provide corn growers with a new option for maintaining cleaner fields and protecting yield potential in the years ahead.
