Something new - just in time for fall applications of anhydrous ammonia

The next generation of nitrification inhibitors is here, and just in time for fall applications of anhydrous ammonia.

New for fall 2025 applications is CENTURO™ A-PRO from Koch Agronomic Services (KAS), a highly concentrated formulation of its industry-leading CENTURO™ nitrification inhibitor product.

The new CENTURO A-PRO formulation leverages three times the concentration of the patented active ingredient Pronitridine to lower application rates for anhydrous ammonia, with the added value of being low odor and 100% non-corrosive to the metals used in anhydrous equipment. This makes CENTURO A-PRO an easy-to-handle nitrogen protection option for growers and retailers.

“We kept all the benefits of the original CENTURO and enhanced it,” said Steve Coulter, senior vice president, KAS. “We’re excited for growers to begin using the new CENTURO A-PRO formulation to optimize their anhydrous ammonia applications.”

“CENTURO has been a proven performer for growers for several years, and we are actively committed to delivering innovation that both boosts yield performance and reduces environmental impact,” said Coulter. “With the new highly concentrated CENTURO A-PRO formulation, KAS is driving the industry forward again with an enhanced formulation that improves nitrogen availability by reducing loss to help ensure crops meet their full potential.”

The cornerstone of CENTURO A-PRO is its active ingredient, Pronitridine. Proprietary to KAS, this active ingredient defends nitrogen against below-ground loss from denitrification and leaching. It works by delaying the conversion of ammonium to nitrate by targeting the AMO enzyme in soil bacteria (Nitrosomonas), effectively keeping nitrogen in the root zone longer, equating to better crop uptake.

Superior ease of use in and out of the field is another benefit growers and retailers will find with CENTURO A-PRO nitrogen stabilizer. In its new highly concentrated formulation, growers can capitalize on a lower use rate — 6.7 liters per metric tonne of anhydrous ammonia — that improves operational efficiency and reduces product volume. CENTURO A-PRO is mixed with fertilizer on a per tonne rate, making it easier to utilize in variable rate applications than products with per-acre rates.

Adding to its ease of use is its application flexibility. Built for the variability of fall weather, CENTURO A-PRO enables growers to widen their fall anhydrous ammonia application window and apply two to three weeks earlier than normal when soil temperatures drop to 15°C and continue to decline. This wider fall window helps growers keep going during go-time and ensures they can get all their acres covered.
