Saskatoon-based Nutrien showcases Canadian agriculture innovation with global fertilizer production, retail networks and digital farm solutions.

As Canada marks Canada Day, Farms.com is celebrating Canadian Companies.

Nutrien Ltd., a Saskatchewan-based agriculture company that has become one of the most influential players in the global food production system.

Headquartered in Saskatoon, Nutrien was formed in 2018 through the merger of two Canadian industry leaders, Potash Corporation of Saskatchewan and Agrium.  The combined entity has since grown into one of the world’s largest providers of crop inputs and services, supporting farmers across six continents.

A Canadian Company with Global Reach
Nutrien’s scale highlights the strength of Canadian agriculture companies on the world stage. The company is the largest producer of potash and one of the top producers of nitrogen fertilizers globally, essential nutrients that help increase crop yields and food production.

With operations serving more than 40 countries and a network of thousands of retail locations, Nutrien provides farmers with direct access to crop inputs, agronomic expertise and services that support productivity from planting through harvest.

The company’s integrated model spans production, distribution and retail. Nutrien produces millions of tonnes of potash, nitrogen and phosphate products annually, then delivers them through its extensive supply chain and farm retail network.

For producers in Canada and beyond, that global reach translates into access to essential inputs that help manage crop nutrition, improve yields and support farm profitability.

Supporting Farmers Across the Value Chain
Nutrien’s influence extends beyond fertilizer production. Through its Nutrien Ag Solutions division, the company operates one of the largest agricultural retail networks in the world, offering seeds, crop protection products and agronomic services.

This direct connection to growers allows Nutrien to play a key role in translating global supply chains into on-farm solutions. The company works alongside farmers to address soil health, nutrient management and production challenges, helping to optimize crop performance in diverse environments.

Digital tools are also becoming an important part of that relationship. Nutrien has invested in platforms that allow growers to manage input purchases, agronomic data and financial decisions, reflecting a broader shift toward data-driven agriculture.

Feeding a Growing Global Population
As agriculture faces increasing pressure to produce more with fewer resources, companies like Nutrien are positioned at the centre of the conversation.
The company’s stated purpose is focused on “feeding the future,” reflecting the growing demand for efficient and sustainable crop production systems.

Fertilizer remains a cornerstone of modern agriculture. By supplying key nutrients to crops, products such as potash, nitrogen and phosphate play a vital role in maintaining soil fertility and supporting global food security.

In Canada, where agriculture is a major economic driver, Nutrien’s operations underscore the country’s importance as a supplier of critical inputs to international markets.

Canada Day provides an opportunity to reflect on the contributions of Canadian industries beyond national borders. In agriculture, companies like Nutrien demonstrate how domestic expertise can scale globally.

In a world where reliable food production is increasingly critical, that contribution reflects both the strength of Canada’s agriculture industry and its growing role on the international stage.

Border View Farms is a mid-sized family farm that sits on the Ohio-Michigan border. My name is Nathan. I make and edit all of the videos posted here. I farm with my dad, Mark and uncle, Phil. We also have a part-time employee, Brock. My dad started the farm in 1980. Since then we have grown the operation from just a couple hundred acres to over 3,000. Watch my 500th video for a history of our farm I filmed with my dad.

I started making these videos in the fall of 2019 as a way to help show what I do on a daily basis as a farmer. Agriculture is different from any other industry and I believe the more people that are showing their small piece of agriculture, helps to build our story. We face unique challenges and stressful situations but have some of the most rewarding payoffs in the end. I get to spend everyday doing what I love, raising my kids on the farm, and trying to push our farm to be better every year. I hope that I can address questions or concerns that you might have about farms and agriculture.

I hope you enjoy my content and ask questions as you have them. I do my best to answer anything I can. Thanks for watching!
