New cottonseed lineup offers higher yields strong fiber and pest protection
PhytoGen® cottonseed, the U.S. cottonseed brand of Corteva, has announced three new cotton varieties for the 2027 growing season. The new additions, PHY 362 W3FE, PHY 491 W3FE and PHY 207 W3FE, are designed to deliver strong yield performance, improved fiber quality, and dependable field performance for cotton producers.
“With these new varieties for 2027, we continue a new era at PhytoGen cottonseed that began with last year’s product introductions,” said Joel Faircloth, Ph.D., Corteva Portfolio Leader – Cotton. “Our breeders exceeded expectations again by adding three more varieties to our portfolio with breakthrough yield potential and excellent fiber quality.
PHY 362 W3FE is an early to mid-maturity variety developed for broad adaptability across the Cotton Belt. It is suited for both irrigated and dryland production and provides strong fiber quality. PHY 491 W3FE is a mid to full-maturity variety with premium fiber characteristics and strong yield potential, particularly in southeastern growing regions where longer-season cotton is preferred.
Both varieties offer built-in resistance to bacterial blight, reniform nematodes and root-knot nematodes. Their ability to perform across varying soil types and production conditions can help growers manage risk and maintain more stable yields.
Field and university trial data showed promising results. PHY 362 W3FE recorded a significant yield advantage over competing varieties in Cotton Belt trials and ranked among the top performers in Mississippi State University variety testing. PHY 491 W3FE also achieved leading results in irrigated cotton trials conducted by the University of Georgia.
The third variety, PHY 207 W3FE, was developed specifically for the High Plains region. The early-maturity variety is designed to handle challenging conditions, including drought, storms, and shorter growing seasons. It is suitable for both irrigated acres and double-crop wheat systems.
Trial results showed that PHY 207 W3FE delivered a yield advantage compared to a competing variety in multiple High Plains evaluations. Growers participating in the PhytoGen® Horizon Network also planted all three varieties in on-farm trials during 2026, with harvest results expected to provide additional performance insights.
The latest introductions strengthen PhytoGen®’s cotton portfolio and provide growers with additional options to address changing weather, pest pressures and production challenges while aiming for improved yields and profitability.
