Pork Producers Welcome House Bill Progress

NPPC Supports Farm Stability Measures

The National Pork Producers Council (NPPC) has expressed strong support for the recent reconciliation bill passed by the U.S. House of Representatives. NPPC President Duane Stateler, a pork farmer from Ohio, believes the bill brings much-needed stability to American farmers during uncertain times. 

“America’s pork producers are one step closer to more certainty with the House’s reconciliation bill passage, which includes necessary legislation to keep farms afloat during uncertain times. At the same time, we will keep pressure on Congress to pass a five-year farm bill, which includes a fix to California Proposition 12,” said Stateler. 

NPPC is calling on the Senate to support several key provisions in the reconciliation bill. One top priority is maintaining programs that protect the nation’s food supply from foreign animal diseases. These include the National Animal Vaccine Bank, the National Veterinary Stockpile, and disease preparedness networks. 

The council also seeks greater investment in the Market Access Program (MAP) and Foreign Market Development Program (FMD). These initiatives help promote U.S. pork exports, offering a return of $24.50 for every $1 spent and supporting hundreds of thousands of jobs. 

Another focus is the continuation of the Feral Swine Eradication Program, first introduced in the 2018 Farm Bill, which helps protect farms from diseases like African swine fever. 

NPPC also advocates for permanent tax provisions to help farmers plan financially. These include the Qualified Business Income Deduction, 100% bonus depreciation, improved business interest expense rules, and the permanent increase in the estate tax exemption and Section 179 expensing limits. 

These measures, the NPPC argues, will provide essential financial flexibility, preserve family farms, and strengthen food security for the nation. Farmers remain committed to working with leaders to ensure these critical provisions are passed into law.
