Cohort seven pairs mentors and mentees to strengthen agriculture leadership

The Saskatchewan Next Generation Agriculture Mentorship Program has announced mentor-mentee pairings for its seventh cohort. The program supports emerging agricultural leaders by offering hands-on leadership training over an 18-month period.

This year’s cohort includes several mentees paired with experienced mentors. The pairings are Alexa Berezowski with Cody McNernie, Cheyenne Quam with Krystal Tendler, Holly Sparrow with Nicole Jones, Jessica Davey with Alan Jackson, Kaitlyn Kochanowski with Blake MacMillan, Mark McMurphy with Todd Andries, Kennedy MacNeil with Tom Harrison, and Cassidy Ross with Kelly Cruise. These partnerships allow mentees to learn directly from industry experts.

Participants gain valuable experience in key areas such as agricultural board governance, advocacy, business development, networking, media management, and financial planning. These skills are important for building strong leadership in the agriculture sector.

Mentees are selected by an advisory committee based on their applications and references. Applicants must show clear goals, leadership ability, and a strong interest in contributing to agriculture. Preference is given to individuals who do not have access to similar programs, ensuring equal opportunities.

"Programs like this are crucial in supporting the next generation and helping build a bright future for Saskatchewan's agriculture sector. Connecting young people with experienced mentors gives them the opportunity to learn and succeed in their careers, strengthening the agricultural industry as a whole," said Heath MacDonald, federal Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food.

The program is funded through the Sustainable Canadian Agricultural Partnership, a five-year investment by federal, provincial, and territorial governments. This funding supports efforts to improve innovation, competitiveness, and resilience in agriculture.

"The Next Gen Agriculture Mentorship Program has been influential in developing the next generation of agriculture leadership in our province. Thanks to the dedication of our mentors, participants gain the knowledge and confidence to lead the industry forward," said David Marit, Saskatchewan Minister of Agriculture.

Leaders have highlighted the importance of mentorship in shaping the future of the industry. Heath MacDonald stated that such programs help young people grow and succeed, strengthening the agriculture sector.

Overall, the program continues to play an important role in preparing future leaders and ensuring a strong and sustainable agriculture industry in Canada.
