AASV Foundation invites eligible swine veterinarians to apply for scholarship

The American Association of Swine Veterinarians Foundation is inviting applications for the respected Hogg Scholarship. This scholarship was established in 2008 to assist swine veterinarians who wish to return to school for advanced graduate education. The purpose is to encourage continued academic development and leadership within the swine health and production industry. The scholarship amount is $10,000 and is intended to support a veterinarian pursuing a master’s degree or higher in a field related to swine health.

Since its beginning, 22 veterinarians have been awarded this scholarship. Their profiles serve as examples of professional growth in swine veterinary practice, research, and education. The scholarship honors the career path of Dr. Alex Hogg, who worked in mixed animal practice for two decades before pursuing a master’s degree in veterinary pathology. He later contributed to the industry as the Nebraska swine extension veterinarian and professor, and remained a lifelong learner even into retirement.

Applicants must meet two main eligibility conditions. First, they must have at least three years of experience working as a swine veterinarian in either private practice or integrated production. Second, they must have five consecutive years of AASV membership.

The application materials required include a current curriculum vitae, a letter outlining plans for graduate study and future career goals, and two letters of reference from AASV members supporting the applicant’s qualifications. Applications must be submitted to foundation@aasv.org by December 1.

The selected recipient will be announced during the AASV Annual Meeting luncheon.
