Syngenta brings Elatus Era fungicide to lentil growers

The product protects against anthracnose, white mould, and Ascochyta blight

Canadian lentil farmers have a new fungicide available to them this growing season through Syngenta’s Elatus Era.

“This represents an evolution in our lentil disease protection from what we currently have on the market as Elatus,” Carolyn Wilson, technical lead for fungicides with Syngenta Canada, told Farms.com. “The main difference between the two is the secondary active ingredient.”

Syngenta’s Elatus fungicide contains the Group 7 SOLATENOL, which has proven control of anthracnose, including on Group 11 resistant biotypes.

Elatus Era includes Group 7 prothioconazole in a co-pack.

This combination helps protect against diseases like anthracnose, white mould, and Ascochyta blight.

“Anthracnose is the primary economic disease of lentils in Western Canada,” Wilson said. “White mould is another concern growers have, and the prothioconazole will help farmers with that.”

Elatus Era showed its mettle against competitor products in large scale field trials.

Syngenta tested the fungicide in 16 different sites across Saskatchewan in 2025.

“Overall, it was a 3.7-bushel yield advantage for Elatus Era versus any of our competitors,” Wilson said.

The fungicide also has plant health benefits.

Specifically, a greening effect, Wilson said.

“That’s the result of increased chlorophyll,” she said. “Therefore, the result is the increased yield, better standability and harvestability. The SOLATENOL also helps with water conservation within the plant.”

Another benefit Elatus Era brings to farmers is a wide application window.

“Zero to 20 per cent flower is where we would want farmers to apply Elatus Era,” Wilson said. “And you’re going to get long lasting control with that SOLATENOL because it stays in the waxy cuticle.”

Elatus Era is also labeled for use in chickpeas, peas, pulses, and soybeans.

The trial compares 30 pounds of supplemental nitrogen across both 15- and 30-inch rows, along with treatments that include sulfur and micronutrients. Similar trials conducted in 2024 and 2025 delivered a six- to seven-bushel yield response, prompting the team to expand the research this season.

Early observations show that treated soybeans are slightly taller and averaging about two additional nodes on the main stem. These added nodes could create more opportunities for blooms and pods, but the true results will come at harvest when the team evaluates pod development, seed fill and final yield.
