The Orondis Advanced premix combines a Group 29 and Group 49
Canadian potato farmers will have a new crop input at their disposal for the 2026 season.
Syngenta recently introduced Orondis Advanced fungicide to protect against white mould and late blight.
“It’s a premix formulation of fluazinam (Group 29) and oxathiapiprolin (Group 49),” Cheryl Trueman, technical lead for horticulture and potatoes, told Farms.com. “These ingredients are in different products in the potato fungicide space, but this product brings them together.”
Late blight can be devastating if left untreated in fields.
The fungus can overwinter, and one infected plant in a field is enough to start an epidemic.
“If left uncontrolled, and weather conditions favour disease development, it can devastate a potato field in five to seven days,” Syngenta’s website says.
In fact, late blight is responsible for the Great Famine in Ireland in the 1840s.
The new Syngenta fungicide also provides farmers with flexibility within their crop protection programs.
Orondis Advanced is a strong rotation partner for products like Revus (Group 40), and overall can be mixed with more than 20 fungicides and insecticides.
“This flexibility gives farmers a strong rotation that includes multiple modes of action,” Trueman said. “This is a big advantage we’re excited about.”
Farmers also have a wide application window – from row close to senescence – when applying the fungicide for late blight protection.
“You can also put it on towards the end of the season which is going to protect the tubers from tuber blight,” Trueman said.
The fungicide comes in a 2x9.6L case.
At a rate of 0.32 L/ac, one case will treat about 60 acres.
