Higher supplies and lower LNG demand boost energy outlook

The U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) expects natural gas inventories to rise significantly ahead of the upcoming winter season. According to its latest energy outlook, gas storage levels could reach nearly 4,000 billion cubic feet by October, marking the highest pre-winter inventory level in a decade.

The increase is mainly driven by strong natural gas production and reduced demand from liquefied natural gas (LNG) export facilities undergoing maintenance. Higher inventory levels are expected to provide added energy security and help meet increased heating demand during colder months.

Energy analysts note that larger gas supplies can help stabilize markets during periods of high seasonal consumption. With more fuel available in storage, utilities and consumers may have greater flexibility when winter demand rises.

The EIA also highlighted developments in global oil markets. Ongoing transportation challenges in the Middle East continue to affect crude oil supplies. As a result, global oil inventories are expected to decline, supporting stronger oil prices in the near term.

"More natural gas in inventories in the fall season provides a cushion for increased heating-related consumption during the winter," said EIA Administrator Tristan Abbey.

Brent crude oil prices are projected to average around $85 per barrel during the third quarter of 2026. However, market forecasts suggest prices could gradually ease by 2027 as oil production increases and inventories begin to recover.

Natural gas prices are expected to remain lower than previously forecast. The Henry Hub benchmark price is projected to average $2.87 per million British thermal units during the third quarter of 2026. Strong gas production and reduced LNG feedgas demand are contributing factors behind the lower price outlook.

The latest forecast reflects changing conditions across global energy markets. Rising natural gas inventories, shifting oil supplies, and evolving demand trends will continue shaping energy prices and availability in the months ahead.
