New USDA loan rates support farm growth equipment and storage investments

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has announced its Farm Service Agency (FSA) loan interest rates for August 2026. The new rates became effective on August 1, 2026, and provide agricultural producers with access to financing for a wide range of farming needs.

FSA loans are designed to help farmers start, expand, or maintain their agricultural operations. These loans can be used to meet operating expenses, purchase farmland, invest in equipment, build storage facilities, and manage unexpected financial challenges.

For August 2026, the direct Farm Operating Loan interest rate is set at 5.25%, while the direct Farm Ownership Loan rate is 6.00%. Farmers using Joint Financing Farm Ownership Loans can access a lower interest rate of 4.00%, and the Down Payment Farm Ownership Loan program offers an even lower rate of 2.00%.

The Emergency Loan rate is 3.75%. These loans help producers recover losses caused by natural disasters and other qualifying events.

In addition to direct loans, USDA supports guaranteed loans through commercial lenders. Interest rates for guaranteed loans are established by participating lenders.

USDA also provides financing through Commodity Credit Corporation programs administered by FSA. Commodity Loans with terms of less than one year carry an interest rate of 5.00%. These loans help producers secure cash flow instead of selling commodities during periods of low market prices.

Farm Storage Facility Loans continue to offer affordable financing options. Interest rates range from 4.125% for three-year loans to 4.625% for twelve-year loans. Sugar Storage Facility Loans with fifteen-year terms are available at 4.875%.

These financing programs help producers improve storage capacity, purchase handling equipment, strengthen cash flow, and support long-term farm investments.

Farmers interested in learning more about available programs can contact their local USDA Service Center. USDA also offers digital resources, including the Loan Assistance Tool and Debt Consolidation Tool, to help producers explore financing options and make informed decisions.
