Farmers urge renewal of USMCA to secure exports and strengthen markets

The United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) continues to play an important role in supporting agriculture, especially for soybean farmers who depend on stable export markets. As the agreement approaches its review in July 2026, industry groups are encouraging support for its renewal.

Mexico and Canada remain two of the most important buyers of U.S. soybeans and related products. These markets provide steady demand, helping farmers maintain reliable income and sustain their farming operations. Strong trade relationships with neighboring countries also reduce uncertainty and improve long-term planning.

USMCA helps ensure smooth cross-border trade by reducing barriers and improving transportation efficiency. This allows agricultural products to move quickly and reliably between countries. For soybean farmers, this means better access to markets and fewer delays in delivering their goods.

In addition to trade benefits, the agreement provides policy stability. Farmers can make production decisions with confidence, knowing that trade rules will remain consistent. This is especially important during times of economic challenges when market conditions may change rapidly.

Agricultural organizations are now asking farmers, agribusiness leaders, and stakeholders to act. They are encouraging support for a coalition letter addressed to the government, highlighting the importance of renewing USMCA. The letter explains how the agreement has helped expand exports, create jobs, and strengthen supply chains across North America.

At the same time, stakeholders are calling for improvements that will make the agreement even more effective in the future. These changes aim to provide long-term certainty and continued growth for soybean farmers and rural communities.

Overall, renewing USMCA is seen as a key step in maintaining strong agricultural trade and supporting the success of farmers across the region.
