New partnership supports the next generation of soybean industry leaders

The American Soybean Association (ASA) has announced a new partnership with Vylor that will continue support for one of the agricultural industry's longest-running leadership development programs.

Under the agreement, Vylor becomes the official sponsor of the newly named ASA Vylor Young Leader Program. The partnership ensures the continuation of a program that has helped develop agricultural leaders for more than four decades.

The Young Leader Program focuses on preparing soybean farmers and emerging agricultural professionals for leadership roles. Participants receive training designed to improve communication, leadership, advocacy, and industry knowledge while building valuable relationships with fellow farmers from across the country.

ASA leaders say the program plays an important role in preparing future voices for agriculture. Through a combination of training sessions, networking opportunities, and practical learning experiences, participants gain skills that can be used within their farms, communities, and agricultural organizations.

“Developing strong farmer leaders is critical to the future of our industry, and the Young Leader program has been doing that work for more than four decades,” said ASA President Scott Metzger, an Ohio soybean farmer and member of the 2012 Young Leader class.

He added, “I have seen the impact of this program both as a participant and now as ASA president. Young Leader alumni are leading soybean organizations, advocating for farmers, and helping shape the future of our industry. We appreciate Vylor’s commitment to carrying that legacy forward.”

Many past graduates of the program have gone on to serve in leadership positions within the soybean industry. Alumni have held roles in state soybean organizations, contributed to national agricultural discussions, and helped represent farmers on important policy issues.

The program's long history has made it one of the most respected leadership initiatives in U.S. agriculture. For 43 years, it has helped identify and support individuals interested in expanding their involvement in the industry while promoting the interests of soybean growers.

Vylor's sponsorship continues to have a legacy of support established by its heritage companies. The company has expressed a commitment to helping farmers succeed and to investing in the future of agriculture through leadership development.

Industry leaders believe strong leadership is essential as farmers face changing markets, new technologies, environmental challenges, and evolving consumer expectations. Programs that encourage leadership growth help ensure agriculture remains represented by knowledgeable and experienced voices.

The training offered through the Young Leader Program provides participants with opportunities to learn from industry experts, strengthen communication skills, and better understand agricultural issues affecting producers across the country.

In addition to classroom-style learning, participants benefit from peer-to-peer interaction and networking opportunities. These relationships often continue well beyond the program, creating a nationwide network of agricultural leaders.

The upcoming 2026-2027 class will be the first group to participate under the new ASA and Vylor partnership. The first phase of training is scheduled for late November through early December in Iowa, where participants will begin their leadership development journey and connect with fellow class members.

“The Young Leader program has prepared multiple generations of soybean farmers to become effective leaders and advocates for our industry, and we are proud to carry this legacy forward through our new partnership with ASA and the Young Leader program,” said Paul Fariss, U.S. Industry Affairs Lead with Vylor.

He added, "We have a shared commitment to supporting farmers and investing in the future of agriculture, and this program will help ensure that the next generation of leaders have the knowledge, skills and opportunities to make a lasting impact on our industry.”

As agriculture continues to evolve, organizations are placing greater emphasis on preparing future leaders who can guide the industry forward. Initiatives such as the ASA Vylor Young Leader Program help equip participants with the confidence, knowledge, and professional connections needed to address future opportunities and challenges.

The renewed commitment from ASA and Vylor highlights the importance of investing in people as well as production. By fostering leadership and encouraging active participation within agriculture, the program aims to strengthen the soybean industry and support farmers for years to come.
