The Executive Director of Farm and Food Care Saskatchewan says the 2026 edition of Saskatchewan Open Farm Days was very well received.
This past weekend, as part of Farm and Food Care Saskatchewan's third annual Saskatchewan Open Farm Days, the public was invited to participate in a variety of activities designed to highlight Saskatchewan agriculture or visit any of approximately 36 venues that opened their doors to the public.
Farm and Food Care Saskatchewan Executive Director Clinton Monchuk says when people understand how their food is produced it generates a higher degree of confidence in the food system.

When we do our research and look at how can we actually make an impact with the public in terms of building trust when it comes to agriculture, we know that having conversations directly from farmers or ranchers, or people who work in the industry with consumers, builds that trust. Creating an opportunity where farm gates are open to the general public, people can go out and talk to farmers, ranchers, people who work in the industry, this just creates more trust.
In a lot of instances, they just wanted to learn more about what is happening outside the city limits.
Case in point, when we went to one of the bigger farms, 16 Grains, which is just outside of Saskatoon, to get that experience, to have those individuals talk and understand how much land an average farmer would actually crop and harvest every year and some of the technologies that actually go into farming nowadays.
For some of these people, it truly was mind-blowing. They had never thought about it before. They didn't understand the sheer size of what our farms are today and the efficiencies that go within that.
Having that opportunity to talk to people and let them understand what truly happens on farms is just nothing but positive for the agriculture industry in general. Monchuk says total attendance is still being calculated but indications are the response was positive.
