AgScape, a leader in agriculture and food education for students and educators across Ontario, is pleased to announce that Christine Kim, an elementary school teacher at Dunlace Public School in North York, Ontario, is the recipient of AgScape’s 2026 Teaching Excellence in Agriculture and Food Education Award.
Sponsored by Canada’s Outdoor Farm Show, the annual award recognizes an Ontario educator who demonstrates an exceptional commitment to integrating agriculture and food topics into teaching and inspiring youth to become informed, food-literate citizens. The recipient receives a $1,500 cash prize and a certificate recognizing their impact on agriculture and food education in the classroom.
Kim has spent 18 years as an elementary educator with the Toronto District School Board and is passionate about creating meaningful, hands-on learning experiences. With a background in kinesiology, she brings a strong interest in health, nutrition, and the role food plays in personal well-being to her classroom.
Kim also uses food to explore culture, identity, and community, intentionally incorporating diverse foods and traditions so students can see themselves represented while learning about others. During the past school year, her Grade 2 students explored agriculture, healthy eating, global communities, and food-related careers through cooking, gardening, farm experiences, workshops, and partnerships with community and industry organizations.
