Ahead of Chinese President Xi Jinping’s state visit to the White House, Representative Zach Nunn (IA-03) is urging President Trump to use the meeting to hold Beijing accountable to its commitments to Iowa farmers and American workers and secure enforceable trade agreements that protect U.S. economic and national security interests.
“President Trump has leverage going into this meeting, and he should use it to demand real results for Iowa farmers and American workers,” said Rep. Nunn. “Beijing has a long record of making promises and failing to deliver on them. I pushed the Administration to secure China’s commitment to reopen its market to American soybeans earlier this year, and that was an important win for Iowa farmers. But it’s clear we can’t take Beijing at its word. Any new trade agreement must be enforceable and open markets for American products without giving China more leverage over our farmers, manufacturers, or national security.”
