Alberta Grain Companies Participate in Southeast Asia Mission

A delegation of six representatives from four Alberta grain suppliers, exporters and their agent recently participated in a grain trade mission to the Philippines, Indonesia and Vietnam. Alberta Agriculture and Forestry (AF) partnered with the Alberta Singapore Office, Canadian embassies and the Consulate to the Philippines, Indonesia and Vietnam to organize the mission.

The delegation presented at grain information sessions in each of the three countries. Three business matchmaking events were also held. The delegation joined three market briefing sessions by Canadian trade commissioners, participated in site tours and had meetings with ten wheat flour mills, a pea processor and snack food processors. The program helped to raise Alberta’s profile as a supplier of grain products in the Southeast Asia markets with a focus on wheat, barley and peas. The companies gathered market information and established contacts with local grain importers, flour mills and feed processors in the three countries.

“This was the first trade mission to this region by Alberta grain suppliers,” says Rachel Luo, senior trade and relations officer, AF. “It was worthwhile for companies to gather information on market needs and learn about the requirements in pursuing business opportunities in these markets. The Alberta companies who participated thought this was a great fact finding mission and opportunity to connect with a wide range of buyers.”
