Alberta’s final crop report of 2026 shows harvest nearly complete across the province, but wet conditions, frost and lingering canola have left northern producers facing a difficult finish.
Alberta’s 2026 harvest is almost finished, but for farmers in the Peace Region, getting the last crops into the bin has become a race against winter.
According to the province’s final crop report of the season, released Oct. 30 and reflecting conditions as of Oct. 27, 97 per cent of major crops have been harvested across Alberta. That represents a four-percentage-point increase from the previous week.
Harvest is essentially complete in southern and central Alberta, while the northeast and northwest regions have reached 98 per cent. The Peace Region remains the furthest behind at 89 per cent, despite making the largest weekly gain of any region at eight percentage points.
Canola remains the biggest challenge in the Peace, where just 80 per cent has been combined and another 15 per cent has been swathed. Spring wheat and barley are each 96 per cent complete, while oats have reached 91 per cent.
Cool temperatures, overnight frost, rain and snow have continued to complicate fieldwork in northern Alberta. Some farmers are harvesting grain above recommended moisture levels and relying on grain dryers to finish the job before lasting snowfall.
