Alberta agricultural producers have been given additional time to enroll in the 2026 AgriStability program as governments respond to excessive moisture conditions, while several program changes this year are designed to make coverage more responsive for livestock operations.
The Government of Alberta has opened late participation in AgriStability until October 1, 2026, according to Agriculture Financial Services Corporation (AFSC). The move comes after excessive moisture affected producers following the original April 30 enrollment deadline.
Producers entering through the late participation provision who ultimately qualify for an AgriStability benefit will have that benefit reduced by 20 percent.
AgriStability is designed to protect Canadian agricultural operations against significant declines in farming income resulting from production losses, rising costs and changing market conditions. The program is delivered through the Sustainable Canadian Agricultural Partnership by federal, provincial and territorial governments.
