Local livestock producers urged to engage with municipalities across Alberta

Alberta Pork is encouraging livestock producers across the province to take part in upcoming Stock Talks sessions. These sessions are designed to bring local governments and the livestock sector together to discuss shared goals, challenges, and opportunities that affect agriculture in Alberta.

Stock Talks provide a platform where producers and municipal representatives can engage in open and respectful discussions. The goal is to improve understanding between both groups and support stronger decision making related to agricultural planning and policy.

By participating, producers can help ensure that their experiences and concerns are considered when municipalities develop plans that affect farming operations and rural communities.

Several municipalities are currently inviting local producers to join these discussions. Counties such as Barrhead, Beaver, Leduc, and Westlock are seeking participation from livestock producers who are willing to share their knowledge and perspectives. These sessions focus on topics that matter to both municipalities and the livestock sector, including land use planning, infrastructure needs, biosecurity, and long-term agricultural sustainability.

One of the key benefits of Stock Talks is the opportunity for producers to share real-life insights from their farms. Participants can discuss challenges they face, highlight successful practices, and explain how local policies impact daily farm operations. This exchange of information helps municipalities better understand the needs of the livestock sector while allowing producers to learn more about municipal priorities and responsibilities.

Alberta Pork supports these sessions as part of its commitment to strengthening relationships between producers and local governments. Collaboration and communication are essential for maintaining a strong agricultural sector and ensuring that policies support both economic growth and community well-being.

Producers interested in participating are encouraged to connect with their local Integrated Livestock Working Group representative. Additional details and contact information are available through the ILWG website. By taking part in Stock Talks, producers can play an active role in shaping the future of agriculture in Alberta and supporting stronger rural communities across the province.

Video: Ice Makes Reorganizing & Moving Sheep Hazardous!

Ice makes reorganizing the sheep barns and moving sheep in preparation for lambing very hazardous - it looks more like sheep skating in an ice rink than walking in a barnyard! But, lambing season is quickly approaching, and we have the final group of ewes that require vaccinating prior to lambing, the last breeding rams need to be removed from breeding groups and tattooed, and the barns all need reorganizing to accommodate the new lambs that will be arriving shortly. So, in today’s sheep farming vlog at Ewetopia Farms, we can no longer wait for better weather conditions and must brave the treacherous ice and hope no one gets injured! This is Canadian sheep farming!
