BC’s Sumas Prairie floods again

A deluge of rain from atmospheric rivers has flooded the Sumas Prairie region in British Columbia’s Fraser Valley. This is the second time in four years that the Nooksack River has affected farms downstream in Canada.

The BC Ministry of Agriculture reported that 68 farms were under evacuation orders, including poultry. It’s too early to say how berry farms have been affected.

Farmers and citizens alike are complaining about the lack of federal funds to build flood infrastructure. Also, more needs to be done on an international basis with the state of Washington, where the Nooksack River originates.
