Beef trade is an important factor when analyzing beef and cattle markets. Changes in imports and exports are the net result of shifts in supply and demand in the U.S. and overseas.
Beef imports and exports have diverged over the past few years, with exports sliding and imports surging (Figure 1). Through the first half of 2026, beef exports fell over 15 percent compared to 2025 on a quantity basis. They are less than two-thirds of the high placed in 2022 and the lowest since 2016.
