Bibeau co-chairs international event focusing on sustainable agriculture and food solutions

Federal Agriculture Minister Marie-Claude Bibeau co-chaired the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) in Paris last week.

Agriculture ministers and representatives from about 50 countries agreed to redouble their efforts and implement better practices to feed the growing world population, fight climate change, and ensure that farmers and workers can make a successful living from agricultural production.

During the meetings, the group condemned Russia's unjustifiable war against Ukraine noting that the war poses severe risks to global food security and agreed to a number of ideas that will lead
to transformative solutions for sustainable agriculture and food solutions.

Some of those ideas included increasing investment in research and development and infrastructure; enhancing research collaboration and knowledge sharing. Strengthening the contribution of trade and well-functioning markets to agriculture and food systems transformation.

Back for its fifth year, our Women in Agriculture campaign is returning — and this year, in honour of our 20th anniversary and Women’s History Month, we’re spotlighting “Words from Women”, featuring insights and inspiration from all of our past participants.

Through this campaign, we celebrate the resilience, innovation, and leadership of women who are shaping the future of Ontario’s agricultural sector, from local food producers to environmental stewards across the Greenbelt.

We’re proud to continue uplifting women who are strengthening Ontario’s local food systems and inspiring the next generation of agricultural leaders.
