At the Global Institute for Food Security (GIFS) located at the University of Saskatchewan, Kevin Koh works at the intersection of biology, data, and decision-making. Every day, his team transforms massive volumes of genetic data into practical insights that help breeders, agricultural organizations, and industry partners move faster from information to action.
As Data Management and Analytics Platform Lead, Koh oversees the digital infrastructure, analytics tools, and bioinformatics expertise that enable GIFS to deliver genomic insights at scale. Whether supporting crop improvement, livestock genetics, or emerging agricultural technologies, his team’s role is to help customers extract value from biological data and act on it with confidence.
The path to this work began at the University of Saskatchewan (USask), where Koh built expertise across both biology and computer science, earning degrees in computer science and biochemistry before completing a master’s degree in bioinformatics.
“I have a fuller picture, training from both worlds,” said Koh.
“This combination really helped me set the foundation.”
