Edmonton Potato Farmers Won't See Their in Court

The owners of two Edmonton area potato farms won't have their day in the supreme court after all.

Canada's highest court ruled today, it won't hear the case of an ongoing court battle over faulty soil tests.

It was those faulty tests that led to the quarantine of both farms back in 2007, and prevented them from shipping seed potatoes to the US. for two years.

The CFIA testing was looking for the presence of potato cyst nematodes and tests falsely showed both farms had the wormlike parasite.

Since then, both farms have been seeking compensation for the damage done by the false-positive test results.

The CFIA says the farms already received compensation for losses, through a federal assistance program. As usual, the Supreme court didn't give a reason for its ruling.
