Monthly provincial prices received by farmers in June for grains, oilseeds, specialty crops, cattle, hogs, poultry, eggs and dairy products are now available.
In the Prairie provinces, prices for canola posted their fifth consecutive month-over-month increase and second consecutive year-over-year gain in June. Alberta (+2.2%) led the monthly increase while Manitoba (+6.6%) recorded the largest year-over-year gain. Canola prices were supported by a return in Chinese demand and record-high canola seed crush volumes in June.
Compared with May, soybean prices in June increased in Quebec (+0.9%) and Manitoba (+0.6%) and were essentially unchanged in Ontario. Quebec, Manitoba and Ontario are the major soybean-producing provinces. This marked the 5th consecutive monthly price increase in Quebec and the 10th consecutive monthly price gain in Manitoba. Year over year, soybean prices recorded double-digit gains in these three provinces, led by Quebec (+19.3%). Strong demand for biofuels strengthened soybean prices.
Prices for wheat (excluding durum) continued to rise across the Prairie provinces in June, led by Alberta (+1.6%). Prices for durum wheat reported similar movements, as Saskatchewan (+1.4%) and Alberta (+1.2%) reported gains compared with May. A weaker global wheat production outlook and decreased domestic seeded areas for the 2026/2027 crop year put upward pressure on monthly prices.
