Feds providing more grants to help agri-producers become more sustainable

The federal government is trying to encourage agricultural producers to make their operations more sustainable.

They plan on offering grants between $25,000 and $2 million, through the Agricultural Clean Technology (ACT) Program – Adoption Stream, to help producers purchase and install equipment that reduces greenhouse gas emissions or provides other associated environmental benefits.

“We are committed to supporting agricultural producers in their efforts to reduce their climate footprint,” said Marie-Claude Bibeau, minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food.

So far, 249 projects have received a combined $95.8 million through the ACT program. This includes Entosystem Inc. out of Drummondville, Quebec which received $2 million to purchase and install state-of-the-art, energy-efficient technologies and equipment to help them produce insect-based products being used in animal feed and fertilizer.
