Hog Markets Close October Under Pressure as Ontario Prices, U.S. Pork Cutout and Lean Hog Futures Decline

North American hog markets ended October on a weaker footing, with declining producer prices, continued pressure on pork values and a sharp retreat in nearby lean hog futures. The latest Weekly Hog Market Facts report from the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Agribusiness (OMAFA) highlights the challenges facing producers as the industry moves into November.

While U.S. hog slaughter remains relatively steady, lower carcass values and softer cash market prices are creating additional pressure across both Canadian and American markets.

Ontario Hog Prices Continue Their October Decline
Ontario’s 100% base formula hog price fell to $171.81 per 100 kilograms, down from $183.28 the previous week. The $11.47 decline represents a weekly decrease of approximately 6.3%.

The downward movement has been consistent throughout October. On October 2, Ontario’s base formula price stood at $207.25, meaning the market has lost $35.44 per 100 kilograms over the five reporting dates.

The year-over-year comparison is equally significant. At the end of October 2025, the corresponding price was $231.82, placing the current market approximately 25.9% below year-earlier levels.

Lower hog prices are also reflected in Ontario’s calculated pig values:

Weaned pig value: $44.67 per pig, down from $47.65.

Feeder pig value: $70.87 per pig, down from $75.60.
