The Manitoba government is proud to highlight a series of innovative agricultural projects advancements across western Manitoba, each strengthening local production, expanding value-added processing and creating new economic opportunities for rural communities, Business, Mining, Trade and Job Creation Minister Jamie Moses and Agriculture Minister Ron Kostyshyn announced today.
“Agriculture is the backbone of the Manitoba economy and our continued support for producers and those working in the agriculture sector will benefit Manitobans in every region of the province," said Moses. “With the growth of these projects, agriculture will see increased processing here at home making our products more attractive and affordable to our trading partners.”
These projects demonstrate the Manitoba government’s commitment to supporting innovation, expanding value‑added processing and strengthening rural communities. By backing technologies that improve farm productivity, scaling domestic food production and investing in facilities that keep more processing in the province, the Manitoba government is creating new opportunities for producers, businesses and families across western Manitoba.
Agriculture projects being promoted by the Manitoba government at the Canada Investment Summit in Toronto include:
- Vermillion Growers: Manitoba’s largest greenhouse tomato producers operates a 10‑acre controlled‑environment agriculture facility in Dauphin, generating $8 million in annual revenue and employing 52 full‑time staff. The company is scaling up domestic greenhouse tomato production by undertaking a transformative $205-million expansion to scale operations to 90 acres across three phases.
- Soybean crushing facility: The Manitoba government is advancing development work on a proposed soybean crushing facility in western Manitoba, recognizing the enormous growth and economic potential of Manitoba’s soybean sector.
- Azure Sustainable Fuel Corp: To produce Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF). Azure is positioned to become the country’s first greenfield, large-scale, SAF-focused producer, with capabilities to produce renewable diesel, which would be sold directly into the Canadian fuel pool.
