North Dakota FFA students, advisors, and friends are heading to Indianapolis for the 99th National FFA Convention & Expo, which is being held earlier than usual this year, from Oct. 21-24 in Indianapolis.
According to the National FFA, October works better for avoiding schedule conflicts, so it is likely to continue in the future.
This year, North Dakota has a top 10 finalist for Model of Excellence – Rolla FFA – an amazing achievement; FFA members selected to be in the choir and the band, which are difficult to achieve; an officer candidate; and many top FFA teams and individuals participating, according to Nikki Fideldy-Doll, North Dakota ag education supervisor/FFA advisor.
“We’re always excited for the national convention and North Dakota will have 22 teams that are comprised of 156 individuals that will be competing,” Fideldy-Doll said. “We’re all really proud of Rolla FFA for being a top 10 finalist for Model of Excellence. I can’t remember the last time a chapter in North Dakota was a finalist. It is a competition that thousands of people have been submitted for. It’s exciting to just see a chapter excel in that area.”
The Rolla FFA chapter will be presenting its application and body of work during the year on the main stage at the national convention. A Model of Excellence finalist reaches finalist status by embracing and demonstrating growing leaders, building communities, and strengthening agriculture.
Rolla FFA advisor/ag educator William Fritz said the chapter was “incredibly honored” to be recognized as a Model of Excellence finalist at the National FFA Convention.
“The most meaningful part of being selected a Model of Excellence finalist is that it recognizes the collective work of our members. Every activity takes students willing to plan, lead, present and get involved,” Fritz said. “For a small chapter like Rolla FFA to have our students’ work recognized nationally is something we are extremely proud of.”
