New Restrictions on Animal Entry Due to New World Screwworm

Background - New World Screwworm is a parasite of warm-blooded animals that has recently been reintroduced into the United States. It infests healthy tissue and can cause severe wounds. Parts of Southwestern United States are currently experiencing an infestation. Though eradication efforts are ongoing, the parasite is currently expanding its range. New World Screwworm was eradicated from the United States in 1966 after a more than 10 year campaign. It caused severe disease and even death in domestic animals and people. Though there are no food concerns the effects on NH could be severe if introduced.

To avoid introducing new world screwworm into NH in dogs and cats, NH AGR 4200 NOW requires:

A Certificate of Veterinary Inspection (CVI) for animals entering the State from affected areas which has a validity period of 5 days.
