Olymel Completes $142 Million Expansion, Quadrupling Capacity at Trois-Rivières Plant

Olymel has completed a $142 million expansion and modernization of its Trois-Rivières, Quebec, processing facility, increasing annual production capacity more than fourfold while consolidating pork and poultry processing, slicing and packaging under one roof.

The project represents one of the largest modernization investments in Olymel’s history and expands the facility from 51,700 to 137,200 square feet. Annual production capacity has increased from 12 million kilograms to 50 million kilograms.

The facility produces La Fernandière sausages, whole and sliced hams and now the vast majority of Olymel’s deli meats.

The expansion also strengthens Olymel’s ability to serve markets beyond Canada. The company says the integrated facility provides greater efficiency and positions it to better serve customers in Canada and internationally.

Local reporting following the plant’s inauguration also highlighted the importance of the U.S. market. A portion of the facility’s ham production is currently 80% exported to the United States, and Olymel has indicated it wants to expand U.S. sales with additional products developed at Trois-Rivières.
