Prairie Swine Centre Research Now Accessible in French and English Through New Pork Research Hub

Research conducted by the Prairie Swine Centre is being made available in both French and English through a just launched pork research hub. Swine Innovation Porc, the Prairie Swine Centre, the Centre de développement du porc du Québec and the Canadian Centre for Swine Improvement have launched a new pork research hub that offers one-stop access to resources related to swine sector research in Canada in both English and French.
Dr. Murray Pettitt, the CEO of the Prairie Swine Centre, says the hub is now being populated.

Quote-Dr. Murray Pettitt-Prairie Swine Centre:

Prairie Swine Centre is a swine research organization affiliated with the University of Saskatchewan, so we're located just outside of Saskatoon. Our mandate is to provide near-market research results that solve practical issues for producers and other members of the swine industry and we basically focus on engineering, nutrition and animal welfare and behaviour.

We're really focusing on industry needs and practical problems. The way I like to describe it is we try and provide practical solutions to practical problems, so we're not focusing on the basic science as much as, what can we do that can assist producers and other folks make changes in their organizations that will benefit them?

We also have a very strong knowledge transfer program, which is our extension arm of our organization and it's this part of the organization that's been involved in the creation of this research hub. The hub is brand new and we're continuing to populate it with fact sheets, short articles, tools producers and others can use to calculate things and various technical resources.

There's also a section in there called Research in Action that and includes both articles and videos. So, specific to the Swine Centre, what we are in the process of doing is that we're going through our research of the last decades and we're looking at what's still the most relevant and useful information that we've generated and we're starting to upload that to the Research Hub over time. So, the hub is brand new and it will be populated over time with articles from all of the organizations involved.

The new web site can be found at porkresearchhub.ca.
Dr. Pettitt encourages anyone interested to return repeatedly over time to keep updated on information posted to the hub.

Video: Research in Action | Swine Cluster 4 - Activity 8: Precision Feeding with Dr. Aline Remus

Research in Action is a video series from Swine Innovation Porc that highlights the people and projects driving innovation in Canada's pork sector.

In this episode, Dr. Aline Remus (Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada) explains how precision feeding is helping producers improve efficiency, reduce feed costs and lower environmental impacts while supporting animal health and welfare.

As part of Swine Cluster 4 - Activity 8, this research is advancing precision livestock farming by tailoring nutrition to the needs of individual pigs or groups of pigs. The project aims to reduce feed costs, decrease greenhouse gas emissions and nutrient losses, and develop practical precision feeding systems that producers can confidently adopt on-farm.

By bringing together researchers from across Canada and around the world, this work is helping transform innovative research into practical solutions for a more sustainable and competitive Canadian pork sector.
