Saskatchewan Harvest More Advanced as Crops Mature Earlier

The Saskatchewan harvest is more advanced than normal as crops mature earlier amid ongoing dryness and drought.

The weekly crop report Thursday showed the overall provincial harvest at 4% complete as of Monday, 2 points ahead of the five- and 10-year averages and close to the 5% of crops that were off at this time in 2021, another drought year. Today’s report contained no early yield estimates or crop condition ratings.

The fall rye harvest was the most advanced at about one-third complete as of Monday, with an estimated 15% of the winter wheat off. In terms of spring seeded crops, peas and lentils were leading the way at 22% and 17% harvested, respectively. More than 7% of the barley crop was harvested, along with about 3% of the oats and 2% of the durum. Canola, spring wheat and other crops were reported at less than 1% harvested.
