WGRF Commits $2.8 Million for Ag Research Capacity at U of M

As part of its $32 million Capacity Initiative, WGRF is pleased to announce funding of $2.8 Million to help purchase field and analytical equipment to enhance crop research capacity at the University of Manitoba (U of M). The equipment being purchased will be used for multiple types of crops, soils, and research questions.

“WGRF is pleased to be making this substantial investment at the U of M,” says Dr. Keith Degenhardt, WGRF Board Chair. “The U of M is a leader in training, research and innovation for farmers in Western Canada.  Access to modern equipment that incorporates new technologies and allows additional measurements to be made will have an immediate impact on the quality and quantity of research conducted at the U of M.”

“We welcome the support of WGRF for this critical infrastructure, which will immediately bolster the capabilities of our researchers as they work to develop sustainable and resilient cropping systems and practices that directly benefit Western Canadian producers,” says Digvir Jayas, UM vice-president (research and international).

“The purchase of this equipment will expand the research and innovation potential of the University of Manitoba’s large multi-disciplinary crop research team, while also maximizing the value of WGRF’s future research investments,” says Garth Patterson, WGRF Executive Director.

In total, twenty-four Phase 2 Capacity Initiative applications were approved by WGRF. Additional Capacity funding announcements will be made in the coming months.

Video: Demco Dual Aguer Grain Carts — Fire Safety Systems, Right or Left-Handed Unload, and More!

Demco's dual auger grain cart is designed for unloading efficiency, operator visibility, and safety in the field.

This dual-auger design features both an unload auger and a floor auger for enhanced grain cleanout and consistent flow, and the 22-inch unload auger is capable of moving up to 600 bushels per minute.

Farmers can also choose between right or left-handed unload options—right-handed unload improves visibility from the tractor cab. A new design allows both vertical and horizontal movement for precise grain placement during unloading.

Another key feature is the built-in fire safety system; a 300-gallon onboard water tank with a hose reel that provides field-ready fire suppression capability.

These dual auger grain carts are available in 1100, 1300, 1500, 1700, and 2200 bushel sizes.
