This Canadian chef’s journey to the kitchen started on a farm in Lubeck, Germany. He began an apprenticeship at the age of 15 and worked as a cook during his mandatory military service.

Stadtlander is also a farmer.

In 1993, he and his wife purchased a 100-acre plot near Collingwood, Ont., which provides pork, honey and other ingredients for his restaurant Eigensinn Farm.
