Before calling games from the radio booth for the Chicago White Sox, Ed Farmer was on the pitcher's mound for the team. His major league career as a relief pitcher spanned 11 years and also saw stops in Cleveland, Detroit, Baltimore, Milwaukee, Texas, Oakland and Philadelphia. He finished his career with 30 wins, 43 losses, 395 strikeouts, 75 saves and an earned run average of 4.30. His last major league appearance was October 2, 1983 for the Oakland Athletics.
