Ever watch a roulette wheel spin round and round and wonder if there's a way to predict where the ball will land? J. Doyne Farmer, a physicist from Houston, Texas did the same thing. Along with other physics students, they tried to use physics to beat roulette and use the money to start a scientific community. Though they were able to build computers that calculated the motion of a moving ball and had some success in Las Vegas, they weren't able to turn large profits. Doyne Farmer's work in predicting roulette games was the focus of a documentary in 2004 called "Beat the Wheel."
