Monthly report offers global supply and demand forecasts

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has released its latest World Agricultural Supply and Demand Estimates (WASDE) report, prepared each month by the World Agricultural Outlook Board. This respected publication provides annual forecasts for the supply and use of U.S. and global wheat, rice, coarse grains, oilseeds, and cotton.

“American farmers feed and fuel the world, and this report equips them with the trusted, timely data they need to make informed business decisions,” said Secretary Rollins. “Thanks to President Trump’s historic trade wins over the past few months, new and expanded market opportunities are opening for American agricultural producers in every corner of the world. This follows today’s inflation report that came under analysts' expectations, giving producers greater certainty to plan ahead, invest in their operations, and compete globally. These victories, paired with the first-rate analysis from USDA, ensure our producers have the tools, the markets, and the confidence to grow their operations and strengthen the American economy.”

The WASDE report is considered the gold standard for agricultural market intelligence. It offers producers, agribusiness leaders, and policymakers essential insights to anticipate market trends, manage risks, and inform policy and investment strategies. With inflation trending below expectations, the report comes at a time when producers have greater certainty to plan for the future and expand their operations.

By delivering accurate and transparent data, USDA ensures that America’s agricultural economy remains competitive and globally connected. Regular updates such as the WASDE report help guide planting, marketing, and export decisions while strengthening market stability. This combination of reliable market analysis and growing trade opportunities positions U.S. agriculture to continue its role as a leader in global food and fiber production.

Video: Independent Seed, National Impact | On The Brink: Episode 9

A survey of 200 independent seed businesses reveals what Canada's seed sector actually contributes — and what it stands to lose.

On the Brink, Justin Funk, a third-generation agri-marketer, shares the findings of a national survey conducted in early 2026. The numbers reframe the conversation: independent seed companies in Canada represent upwards of $1.7 billion in dedicated seed infrastructure, approximately 3,000 full-time equivalent jobs in rural communities, and an estimated $20 million in annual community contributions. And roughly 90% of Canada's cereals, pulses, and other small pollinated crops flow through them.

The survey also asked how dependent these businesses are on public plant breeding to survive. The answer was unambiguous. For policymakers evaluating the future of publicly funded breeding programs, Funk argues the economic case for this sector and the case for public plant breeding are the same argument.

On the Brink is a cross-country video series exploring the future of plant breeding in Canada. Each episode features voices from across the industry in an open, ongoing conversation about innovation and long-term investment in Canadian agriculture.
