Before Gordie Howe earned the nickname “Mr. Hockey,” he spent his childhood on a farm in Floral, Sask.
When he outgrew a pair of skates as a kid, he earned a new pair shovelling wheat on a relative’s farm.
Despite his success in hockey, Howe called himself a “lucky old farm boy.”
Gordie Howe scored 801 goals in his NHL career with the Detroit Red Wings.
