Vincent van Gogh completed this oil painting in July 1890 while living in Auvers-sur-Oise, a small town north of Paris, France.
Upon his arrival to Auvers-sur-Oise, van Gogh wrote to his sister describing “roofs of mossy thatch here which are superb and of which I shall certainly make something.”
