9 First Federal Ag Reps

Kenya - Michael Blundell

Kenya - Michael Blundell

Sir Michael Blundell became Kenya’s first agriculture minister in 1955. He remained in the post until 1959.

He would regain the position in 1961 and hold it for one year.

During his tenure as ag minister, Blundell oversaw a plan to grant land titles to the Kikuyu, a group of people from Central Kenya, to end the Mau Mau Uprising.

The conflict in 1952 resulted from escalating tensions between the Kikuyu and white Europeans in the country.
